Firefighters in Monroe washed the spray-painted messages from Congregation Etz Chaim - Monroe Township Jewish Center on Cornell Avenue to make them unreadable, Mayor Stephen Dalina said on Thursday, Nov. 9.

"This is a raw time; the world is very small at the moment," Dalina said. "Again, we must proclaim that any offensive/hateful vandalism is completely unacceptable in our community."

The vandalism is believed to have been committed by juveniles, Monroe police told the mayor.

The congregation called the messages "repulsive" in a statement posted to Facebook.

Two of the messages were written on reflective tape and were easily removed, he said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Jake O’Brien at 732-521-0222 ext. 124.

"We must proclaim that vandalism, of any sort, is completely unacceptable in our community and will not be tolerated," Dalina said.
